The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over Class C misdemeanors, punishable by fine only, issued by the city police officers, code enforcement, animal control officers.
The Initial Court appearance is called an arraignment. An arraignment is a formal process by which the defendant is given notice of the charges that have been filed against them and a plea can be entered on each case. The plea, entered by the defendant, will determine what further action may be taken.
The arraignment date is printed on the citation. The Court has arraignment on Thursdays at 8:30 a.m.
A telephone call does not constitute an appearance and will not prevent issuance of a warrant.
Clerks are not licensed attorneys and cannot provide legal advice.
The clerks’ office is only responsible for processing clerical work of the court, setting dockets, collecting fines and fees, maintaining records and performing administrative duties delegated by the judge.
