Storm water Management Program

The City of Richmond has developed a Storm water Management Program to reduce pollutants in the City’s storm water system and to improve the water quality in the local creeks and rivers. The City’s Storm water Management Program addresses the following seven minimum control measures:

  • Public Education and Outreach
  • Public Involvement and participation
  • Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
  • Construction Site Runoff Control
  • Post-Construction Storm water Management in New Development and redevelopment
  • Pollution Prevention and Good Housekeeping and Municipal Operations
  • Authorization for Municipal Construction Activities

To satisfy the minimum control measures requirements, and City developed various programs known as Best Management Practices (or BMPs). The effectiveness of the implementation of each bmp is assessed by one or more measurable goals.
